Tips on Reading
We believe reading is a vital key to success; we do all we can to ensure all of our children leave us with an ability to read fluently and understand the written word.
Children begin learning to read by developing their phonics knowledge and skills based on Letters and Sounds.  Through the multi-sensory approach of Letterland, children rapidly learn to recognise sounds and blend them together to make words.  We realise that some key words are learned more effectively through the use of flashcards and other resources.
At school your child may come across a variety of reading experiences dependent on age and/or ability:

  • Individual reading with an adult.
  • ERIC - Guided reading in groups of the same ability.
  • Independent reading.
  • Paired reading (with another child).
  • Library time.

It is vitally important that your child reads at home to an adult at least five times a week, even if it just for 10 minutes!
